Mechanical Engineering faculty Mehdi Kabir joins editorial board of Scientific Reports, publishes paper in thermal engineering journal

Mehdi Kabir, Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering in Alfred University's Inamori School of Engineering, recently joined the editorial board of the journal Scientific Reports.

Kabir was invited to join the editorial board of the prestigious journal. Scientific Reports is the fifth most-cited journal in the world, publishing original research from across all areas of the natural sciences, psychology, medicine and engineering.

Separately, Kabir is the sole author of a research paper published recently in the journal Case Studies in Thermal Engineering, one of the top-ranked journals in the field.

In this work, a measurement technique is first proposed to measure heat losses within two-phase flow boiling systems under low-pressure low-flow (LPLF) conditions. The proposed methodology exhibited higher accuracy than the common techniques reported in the literature to measure heat loss and vapor quality of flow boiling systems. For such systems, the investigation of the LPLF conditions is of a great significance in predicting the nuclear core behavior of the pressurized heavy water reactors to ensure the safety in case scenarios like the loss of coolant accidents.
